Rule: Describe the world as it is—seen and unseen—and let the explanations carry the weight.

I've stood watch on steel decks in dirty weather and briefed aircrews on Afghan tarmacs at dawn. Out there, opinions don't move the needle. Explanations do. A good map respects the coastline; a great one respects the currents.

• Realism: There's a world out there. Your map should earn the right to be trusted.
• Not mere tools: Equations that only predict but don't explain will fail you in a storm.
• Unseen ≠ unreal: If it explains and survives contact, it's on the chart.
• No "just stories": Truth isn't a vibe; it's what pushes back when you're wrong.

Bridge Notes — Avoid Mirage Thinking

On desert roads and open water, mirages look persuasive. Explanations are the compass—you don't argue with the horizon; you read it.

2) Knowledge — Field-Tested, Never Finished

Rule: Knowledge is conjecture refined by criticism. Pitch the tent, then test the ropes.

I love the glamour of the stage and the grit of the field. Both reward rehearsal. We guess boldly, we test ruthlessly, we keep what survives the critics—human and natural.

• Conjecture → criticism: Build, break, rebuild.
• Fallible on purpose: All theories are provisional—act like a professional about it.
• Hard-to-vary: If you can swap parts without losing power, it wasn't an explanation.
• Open-ended progress: Better tents, better seasons, never "final truth."

Hard-to-Vary Checklist

• Change a piece—does the force of the idea collapse?
• What unseen structure does the explaining?
• What cheap, decisive test can we run this week?

3) Quantum Roads — Why the Map Branches

Rule: No magical collapses. Decoherence does the housekeeping; the world keeps branching.

On set, you learn to love multiple takes. In quantum land, reality keeps the takes. Measurement is just the crew calling the shot—paths separate; you only ride one.

• Interference: Those fringes aren't art—they're footprints of other paths.
• No epicycles: Skip add-on miracles. The math already points to branching.
• Stable matter: What feels solid is structure that survives branching.

• No mysticism required: Brains run code; experience ships the patches.
• Creativity loop: Generate, expose to error, retain what survives.

Dockyard logic: tell me what can be built, what can't, and why. The constraints are first principles; design flows from there.

• Constructors: Systems that cause change without being used up.
• Information is physical: Computation, thermodynamics, and quantum are braided rope.

Design Notes

Speak in capabilities. "Possible under X, impossible under Y" is a better spec than "someday maybe."
