The Poker Lobotomy Episode 002: Stop the Spiral
Episode 002 • Learn Poker in Your Sleep
Stop the Spiral
Tilt begins when one event becomes a story, the story becomes a state, and the state starts making the next decision.
The Problem
Tilt is not just anger. It is decision contamination. One hand reaches forward and changes the next hand before the cards have earned that influence.
A loss becomes a verdict. A bad beat becomes a prediction. A prediction becomes urgency. Urgency becomes action.
or did I?
That question creates separation. It slows the decision before speeding the action. It puts the evidence back in front of the emotion.
The Spiral
Something goes wrong.
You lose a pot, miss a draw, get shown a bluff, or make an obvious mistake.
You explain it too quickly.
“They always have it.” “I never win these.” “I need to get it back.”
The story changes your tempo.
You speed up, chase, prove, punish, force or defend.
The next hand pays for the last one.
The original loss is over. The spiral is now self-generated.
The Intervention
Slow the decision before you speed the action.
Name what actually happened.
Describe the event without adjectives, motive-reading or prophecy.
Identify the added narrative.
Notice what your mind is trying to make the event mean.
Reopen the decision.
Ask: if the previous hand had never happened, what would the evidence support now?
Move only on signal.
Let the next decision belong to the next decision.
The Golden Thread
Count the possibilities.
Price the consequences.
Survive the variance.
Update the model.
Closing Doctrine
Delete the tilt. Keep the signal. Install the decision.
The objective is not emotional numbness. It is faster recovery of decision quality. The hand ends. The evidence stays. The story does not get a vote unless it can survive inspection.
